KITES






Kites is a forthcoming Bollywood film directed by Anurag Basu, and produced by Rakesh Roshan that will star Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Kangana Ranaut And Luce Rains. I am waiting for this movie to be released............

The movie has Hrithik playing a man torn between his love for his wife and his mistress.Latino bombshell Barbara Mori plays Hrithik’s American mistress while Bollywood damsel Kangana Ranaut plays his Indian wife.


The film’s shooting began July end in New Mexico. It will also be shot in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The first shooting schedule was held abroad, in places like New Mexico, Las Vegas and Los Angeles and was completed in 80 days. Then there will be another long schedule in India during December. After the completion of these two massive shooting schedules the shooting part of the film will be over.

BARBARA MORI - The New Sensation



The actor has now wrapped himself in the apparel of a singer for Kites. The song is a English number and let us see how he proves himself to be a good singer after he has proved that he is an ultimate dancer.

Double Ka Meeta (Bread Jamun)



I am trying to get rid of some of my recipes from my Drafts.

Cutting to the chase, Here is my favorite dessert. (as if I dont like other desserts! because I live for sweets!)

This is a Mughal Dish and it is also called Shahi Tukre.


Ingredients:


Bread Slices - 8

Sugar - 2 cups

Heavy Cream - 1/2 cup

Water - 1 cup

Saffron - 1 pinch

Mixed nuts - 1/2 cup fried in ghee(Pistachios, Almonds and Cashew nuts)

Khoya - 2-3 tbsp(optional)

Cardomom - 2to 3 Pods crushed

Oil for frying. (Ghee tastes better than oil, if you can afford)


Preparation Method:


First remove the crust for all the Bread slices and cut the bread into triangle or square shapes. I prefer triangle shape because the more smaller you cut, the more oil it absorbs.


Shallow fry them in hot oil and remove them when they are slightly golden brown.


In the meanwhile make a thin sugar syrup with saffron and cardamom.


Arrange the fried bread on a tray and add the sugar syrup over.


Let this soad for 5-10 minutes and then pour the heavy cream on the top.


Garnish with khoya(optional) and fried nuts.


This is the most interesting Hyderabadi dessert ever.


But guess what "Dessert spelled backwards is Stressed". Coincidence? I think not!"

"Kabhi Kabhi Aditi’ from the film Jaane tu Ya Jaane na is a chart buster.


Rashid was spotted at a concert in London by A R Rahman about six years ago. Rahman walked up to him for a casual chat, although Rashid did not know much about him except for his work in Rangeela.
It is strange at times, that Rahman even gets notified about each and single men in his group. After sharing the credits of his success to his fellow musicians like Naveen and Shivamani, Rahman gives an opportunity to his lead guitarist Rashid Ali to sing the foot tapping track of Jaane Tu ya Jaane na.

His voice is fabulous, you have to listen to this to approve it!

Easy Vegetable Puffs



This is the most tasty and easiest snack which can be done in 30 minutes, if you have Puff Pastry sheets at home.

INGREDIENTS

1. Pastry Sheets - Pepperidge Farm Pastry Sheets(1Box)
2. Potato - 2
3. Grean Peas - 100 gms
4. Ginger Garlic paste-1tbsp
5. Onion - 1
6. Green chillies-4
7. Chilly Pdr-3/4 tbsp
8. Coriander Pdr-1/2 tbsp
9. Jeera Pdr-1/2
10. Garam Masala pdr-1/2 tbsp
Salt and Oil accordingly.

Preparation:
First remove the pastry sheets from the freezer and thaw it to room temperature.

In the meanwhile heat some oil in a Kadai and fry some onions and green chillies.

When the onions are done frying, add ginger garlic paste, and fry.

Now add your other vegetables like smashed potatoes and green peas.

Add all your dry ingredients like chilly pdr, coriander pdr, garam masala pdr, jeera pdr, turmeric, salt to the vegetables and fry for a minute.

Wait till the mixture is out of water and dry and add cilantro and lemon juice at the end and cool it.

Cut the pastry sheets into three long rectangles and cut each rectangle into two halves, so each sheet will have two pieces and totally it will make 12 pieces.

Place a spoon of filling in one piece in the middle of the sheet and wet the sides with water and close it and seal it.

Repeat the same procedure for the rest of the sheets and place them in a rectangular baking tray and spray the tray with Pam(cooking spray) to avoid sticking to the bottom.

Bake it at 350 in the oven for 30 minutes till light golden brown.

Yummy Yummy Vegetable Puffs are ready to eat!

You can subsitute Vegetables with Boiled egg to make a Egg Puff.

Milk Khova


This recipe is from my friend. I am sure she will be pulling her collar up now. This is so easy to make and the taste is unbelievable.

INGREDIENTS:

Ricota Cheese- 15 oz,

Sweetened Condensed milk- 14 oz,

Carnation Milk powder- 3.5 oz,

Sugar - 12 tsps,

Butter - 1 stick


PROCEDURE:

Mix the first four items in a microwave safe bowl and stir it well to a idli-batter consistency. Place the Butter stick on top and microwave in high power for 15 minutes. Stir it occasionally once in 4 minutes. Excellent thiratti pal is ready in 15 minutes and the taste is simply superb.

Banana Kesari - A New Twist

This is a recipe I got from one of my friend. You will not know how good it is until you really try it!

INGREDIENTS:

1. Rava - 1 cup

2. Sugar - 1 cup

3. Cardamom - 2 pods

4. Saffron - one pinch

5. Ghee - 3 to 4 tbsp

6. Orange food coloring - one pinch

7. Almonds - 3 to 4 tbsp shredded

8. Mashed Bananas - 2


PROCEDURE:

Fry the rava with one spoon of ghee, till it is well roasted.
Keep it aside. In the same pan add 2 cups of water,(water is usually the double of rava), add Cardamom pdr, sugar, saffron and the food coloring to the water and wait till it boils.
Add rava little by little so it does not form lumps.
Keep stirring continuosly, when it is a little thick, add mashed bananas, shredded almonds and the leftover ghee.
After it becomes to a thick consistency, transfer it into a platter and make it slices, when it cools down.
Try this and you will not regret it!
(Try adding Pineapple or Mango for variation, I have not tried it).

Friday- 13th

I know this blog is about and music and food. But this sounded interesting. I hope you would feel the same way as I do! and today is the "DAY", "FRIDAY THE 13th".


Friday the 13 is a superstition.

"Superstition is the religion of feeble minds".
Triskaidekaphobia - is a fear for the number 13. A specific fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia.

Folklorists think the dread goes back at least a few centuries, and may well trace its roots all the way to Biblical times, when the 13th guest at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus and caused his Crucifixion, which was held on a Friday.

Whatever the origin, by the late Middle Ages both Friday and the number 13 were considered bearers of misfortune. That potent combo, more than any specific association with the date, is what has deemed Friday the 13th unlucky.

Its origins can be traced to Norse mythology and a dinner party at Valhalla, home of the god Odin, where Odin and 11 of his closest god-friends were gathered one night to party. Everyone was having fun, but then Loki, the dastardly god of evil and turmoil, showed up uninvited, making it a crowd of 13. The beloved god Balder tried to boot Loki out of the house, the legend goes, and in the scuffle that followed he suffered a deathblow from a spear of mistletoe.
From that mythological start, the number 13 has plowed a path of devastation through history. There were 13 people at Christ's Last Supper, including the double-crossing Judas Iscariot.
The ill-fated Apollo 13 lunar mission left the launching pad at 13:13 hours and was aborted on April 13. Friday hasn't been much kinder to us.

Put it all together, and Friday the 13th spells trouble for triskaidekaphobics. It's a testament to the phobia's prevalence that Hollywood was able to parlay our fear into a hugely successful series of slasher movies starring a hockey-masked guy named Jason.

But triskaidekaphobia isn't an exclusively American affliction. Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery.

There is a hush-hush organization in France whose exclusive purpose is to provide last-minute guests for dinner parties, so that no party host ever has to suffer the curse of entertaining 13 guests.

Hardcore triskaidekaphobics say that 13 has the power to affect not only their own personal lives, but global events as well.

There were thirteen circles of hell.

Judas is associated with the number 13.

Witches gather in a group of 13.

In the US and CANADA, many tall buildings do not have a floor numbered 13.

In Buffalo, the downtown city hall has no 13th floor. The number buttons in the elevators have 12, then P, then 14.

Many apartments and other buildings use M as the thirteenth floor (12, M, 14) because it is the thirteenth letter in the English Alphabet.

Kerala (India), The Kerala High Court Building has not assigned Number 13 to any of its courtrooms.

Some airport terminals do not have gates numbered 13

On some passenger aircraft such as Continental Airlines, Air NewZealand, Alitalia, and Meridiana, there is no seating row numbered 13.

The Military of United States traditionally skips 13 in its aircraft designation sequences, most visibly in the "F-for-Fighter" sequence, skipping from the YF-12 to the F-14 Tomcat.

Apollo13 was launched at 7:13 p.m. (19:13) UTC. The spacecraft was crippled by an explosion two days into its flight, on April 13,1970.

(Face the Truth: 13th is sitting right there behind the 12th, obviously -- it's just labeled as 14 or somthing else to hoodwink you into relaxing.)
So if you get fired from your job today, or smash up your car, you can blame it on Friday the 13th. Superstition, provides us with an excuse for explaining away our mistakes and disgraces. In other words, it's an easy way to rationalize the screw-ups for which we ourselves are ultimately responsible.

Tandoori Chicken



Here is my famous recipe for Tandoori Chicken.(Atleast that is what people say in my home town).
The original recipe is from my mother but made some changes to it and finally ended up with my own version of Tandoori Chicken made without a Tandoor. You can never go wrong if you follow the directions exactly........

INGREDIENTS:
1. Chicken Drumsticks - 1 pound

2. Chilly pdr - 1 1/2 tbsp

3. Corinader pdr-1 tbsp

4. Garam Masala Pdr - 1/2 tbsp

5. Turmeric Pdr-1/4 tbsp

6. Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tbsp

7. Curd or Yogurt - 2 tbsp

8. Medium Onion - 1/2 thinly sliced

9. Curry Leaves - few

10. Lemon Juice - one (freshly squeezed)

11. Red Food Color - 1 pinch(optional)
PROCEDURE:
Thaw the chicken to room temperature and made slits on the chicken pieces, so the masala gets into the chicken well.
Add Chilli Pdr, Coriander Pdr, Garam masala Pdr, Turmeric, Salt, ginger garlic paste, curd to the chicken pieces and mix them well.
Add red food coloring if you like your chicken to be red looking like how we see in India, mix that with sliced onions and curry leaves. This will give more flavor to your chicken when grilled.

Leave the marinated chicken in the Refrigirator for 2-4 hrs.

Shallow fry them in oil in a medium heat and cook turning them every 5-8 minutes.
(If you are very particular with oil, you can grill the chicken or heat your convection oven to 400C and bake them for an hour turning them both the sides for every 20 minutes. Broil the chicken for few minutes when you know it is completely cooked.)
Remove them in a paper towel to absorb all the extra oil from the chicken and squeeze some lemon juice on the top.
Garnish them with sliced onions and lemon.

Voila! I guarantee you the best Tandoori chicken you would have tasted ever. Guess what Tandoori chicken goes well with? You my friends, I am not telling that!

MANGO KULFI

I want to kick off with a dessert. Here is my recipe for making Mango Kulfi.

INGREDIENTS:
1. Sweetened Condensed Milk-14 ounces
2. Evaporated Milk -12 ounces
3. Whipped Cream - one container(16 ounces)
4. Bread-3 slices
5. Almonds or Pistachios-1/4 cup
6. Cardamom-2
7. Mango Pulp-1 cup
PROCEDURE:
1. Blend the bread pieces into the food processor to make crumbs.
2. Mix condensed milk, evaporated milk and whipped cream together. Add in the bread crumbs, nuts and cardamom.
3. Add in Mango pulp for Mango flavor or you can have as Malai Kulfi if you do not like any tropcial flavors.
4. You can freeze them in a bowl or pour them into popsicle moulds for a good shape.
5. Freeze them overnight or for eight hours.

Before serving, dip the molds in warm water to make the frozen desserts easier to remove. Garnish with more crushed pistachios

Voila! It is as easy as that!
